North Carolina - Inmates lose most of their rights as soon as they enter their jail cell, but under state law the one right they still have is access to health care.North Carolina’s statute on jail health care mandates what must be covered but it does not say the care has to be competent.

Officials who run the Gaston County Jail say the present health care plan covering inmates here offers a higher level of service than many other jails in the state and that the care is top-notch.
